Rachel Henry she is a U.S. fish and wildlife biologist. One of her primary roles is working with private landowners to achieve California tiger salamander recovery in Santa Barbara County. The Santa Barbara County distinct population segment of the California tiger salamander is a federally endangered species. Rachel is working to prevent the loss and destruction of habitat that represents the primary threat to the salamanders. At the crux of her work is a balance between species conservation and ensuring landowners can utilize their lands. I am excited to dive in and learn how she has grappled with landowners to care about these tiny little salamanders that live much of their lives beneath the surface and the different programs she uses to further conservation of this species.
